Rev Chris’s Thoughts for Lent

Welcome March with wintry wind, would thou wert not so unkind”

In Flanders and Swann’s “Song of the Weather”, March is not a welcome month! With the turning of the year, it may seem cold and bleak but there is warmth and hope around the corner. As February gives way to March, so Winter gives way to Spring, and Christmas gives way to Easter.
Lent is a period of transition between Christmas and Easter, traditionally a sombre time when we prepare for Easter. But all is not lost – there is hope around the corner! As we remember Jesus’s temptation in the wilderness, we also remember that he resisted it and went on to embark on his remarkable, history-making three-year earthly ministry.

During Lent this year at St Mary’s, we welcome you to join us for a series of talks on the theme of “Hope in Today’s World”. We are privileged to have a wonderful group of eminent speakers from The Faraday Institute to help us to look for and find the hope in the world around us. Covering subjects like Natural Disaster, Healthcare, Artificial Intelligence, and Evolution, it will be a challenging and illuminating series. Do come if you can - see Coming Events for more details.

For the young (and the young at heart), our All-Age Worship on March 9th is titled “Children of Courage” and we will be learning with the children about where we can find the courage to live out a Christian life.
